Medicine is the art and science of healing. It encompasses a range of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.

Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing.

Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner.

What medical career requires the least amount of college years?
Q. So I've been thinking about studying for a medical career, and I was wondering - what career requires the least amount of school? I know some medical careers require like- seven years of school, is there a career that can require four or less than four years of college?

A. Hello, Your question is a bit general and there are lots of potential choices, I'm not sure what interests you. There are many 2 year programs available possibly EMT training, Respiratory technician or X-ray/sonogram technician. The best bang for your buck in the long-term would be to shoot for a BSN (4 year nursing degree). There are always well-paying nursing jobs available regardless of where you live. Good luck!

Any medical work experience available for 17yr old aspiring medical student?
Q. Any medical work experience, medical 'camps' or practice available in Brisbane or any surrounding areas? I am hoping to study Medicine at university and am currently looking for opportunities to complete volunteer work in the medical sector, to gain experience of working with patients, doctors, and other medical professionals. I have experience of working within the retail department, and also experience of volunteering within the childcare sector where I worked looking after many young children for 3 weeks, following many volunteer sessions over the previous 5 years. I have also helped to run many different music workshops for young children over the course of 2 years. In addition to this, I have also spent time an Elderly person's home… [cont.]

A. You can start by volunteering at a hospital. Then, take an eight-week course and get certified to become a certified nursing assistant. This basically trains you to clean bed-pans, but it's a start. At least you'll get into a medical environment. Then, depending on your eventual goal, you can either get a nursing degree or go to medical school.

How Medical or Pharmacy schools look on those who transferred from 2 year college to University?
Q. My daughter is planning to transfer to UC from community college with biology major. She fulfilled her requirements in CC which means that when she later apply to Pharmacy or Medical school, they would notice that all their prerequisites have been taken in CC. Should she retake these classes in the University or not? (O-Chem, Biology, etc.). Will it be even possible?

A. It's not frowned upon in the least. In today's world their are many non-traditional students..some of us may need to work, therefore we spend time in a less expensive cc school. Or there are those that trashed early education and need to pull rank before getting into a university. What 's important is the progress made and the ability to keep it steady. They take note of this...If you think your doctor was an A student think again, chances are he spent time in a cc. or had freshman probation. I've made many mistakes...leading me to one of the top medical universities. They understand more then you know. Bottom line ...if she's smart, she'll make it...& should be proud of where she came from. What it comes down to is ability,… [cont.]
