In medicine, an adverse effect is a harmful and undesired effect resulting from a medication or other intervention such as surgery. An adverse effect may be termed a "side effect", when judged to be secondary to a main or therapeutic effect, and may result from an unsuitable or incorrect dosage or procedure, which could be due to medical error. Adverse effects are sometimes referred to as "iatrogenic" because they are generated by a physician/treatment. Some adverse effects only occur only when starting, increasing or discontinuing a treatment. Using a drug or other medical intervention which is contraindicated may increase the risk of adverse effects. Adverse effects may cause medical complications of a disease or procedure and negatively affect its prognosis. They may also lead to non-compliance with a treatment regimen. The harmful outcome is usually indicated by some result such as morbidity, mortality, alteration in body weight, levels of enzymes, loss of function, or as a pathological change detected at the microscopic, macroscopic or physiological level. It may also be indicated by symptoms reported by a patient. Adverse effects may cause a reversible or irreversible change, including an increase or decrease in the susceptibility of the individual to other chemicals, foods, or procedures, such as drug interactions. In clinical trials, a distinction is made between adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs). Generally, any event which causes death, permanent damage, birth defects, or requires hospitalization is considered an SAE. The results of these trials are often included in the labeling of the medication to provide information both for patients and the prescribing physicians. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License While taking homeo medicine, drinking ginger, pepper soup has any adverse effect on the homeomedicine? Q. I am taking some homeo medicine for cough, cold etc. I heard that while taking homeo medicines, spices like ginger, pepper etc nullify the effect. So I am asking this question. Thanks Asked by Rack - Mon Dec 14 05:12:19 2009 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. Since there is no medicinal content in homeopathic remedies, it won't affect said therapy either way - but say, that soup actually sounds pretty good. I'd like to taste it! Post the recipe? Answered by wmayers99 - Wed Dec 16 09:13:05 2009 Will this have a great adverse effect on my chance for scholarships? Q. I am a current high school senior..I have maintained very high grades throughout my years of schooling. But now, I am taking Advanced Placement Biology...and I got an 80. My other three grades are A's and B's. Considering my past grades of high A's and high B's...would this C automatically discredit my chances for scholarships even though it was received in a very rigorous course? Asked by Sincere Carnation - Mon Feb 4 16:05:57 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. You're in the same situation as I am. I just got a C too, my first one. As far as everyone is telling me, no it won't affect scholarship chances. The AP matters, and selection committees will look at that. The only thing you need to do is score high on the ACT or SAT. Don't worry, you will be fine. Good luck with everything!
