A. That is so you can pay your money with no expectation of getting the therapeutic response you desire. While there may be no advantage for the user, there is certainly an advantage to the seller. You can get benefit --or not-- from the air you breathe, water you drink, every single thing you take into your body. Your best bet is to ask a pharmacist. While they may not always specialize in over the counter "cures," they can provide guidance and help answer your questions about the specific substance you are taking.

Artistic representation of placebo or of the placebo effect?
Q. I gotta analyze the placebo effect from 3 points of view : philosophical/psychologic al, scientific and artistic. A placebo is mainly a substance or procedure a patient accepts as medicine or therapy, but which has no objectively verifiable therapeutic activity. Any therapeutic effect is thought to be based on the power of suggestion. Do you know any possible artistic representation of the subject?

Q. Why animals have therapeutic effect on kids...?
Asked by banjaran - Tue Mar 2 05:53:36 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. they act as a companion,a confident and a friend. an animal has a limited range of responses when compared to humans and they don't speak our language. this makes it more easy for kids to form a relationship (sometimes emotional) with the animal. since the animal can't really express opinions of approval or disapproval the kid thinks the animal understand him and this leads to the creation of certain feelings according to the child. and animal are quite playful and they usually obey their masters and this also applies to the kid wanting to play with it. hence, animals to behave like a pressure reliever for kids as they provide an escape in their own world.

Do you think sighing might have the same therapeutic effects as crying?
Q. recently, i've been going through a breakup and i find myself sighing a lot. i do it quite often and it may have something to do with my gloomy mood.
Asked by ride_it - Fri Feb 15 08:41:31 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Sighing does have therapeutic effects. It involves the parasympathetic nervous system, which is essentially the division of the nervous system responsible for lowering heart rate and blood pressure and helping you relax. The sympathetic nervous system is the "fight or flight" response; the parasympathetic nervous system is the "relax" response. Why is crying therapeutic? Tears are similar to amniotic fluid, the fluid that surrounds us in the womb. When we cry, we are trying to return to somewhere we instinctively know is safe by surrounding ourselves with salty fluid. Weird theory? I've heard it from many healthcare providers.

What are the therapeutic effects resulting from thyroid hormone replacement?
Q. What are the therapeutic effects resulting from thyroid hormone replacement?
Asked by AKG - Tue Feb 2 21:46:52 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First of all the thyroid gland is part of the ductless endocrine system secreting the hormone thyroxin directly into the blood. It is essential for normal growth in infancy and childhood. Removal of this glad greatly lowers the metabolism and as a result the person would have hypothyroidism (low thyroid activity) This will result in weight gain unless a supplement is taken. The thyroid is is activated by the pituitary thyrotrophic hormone and requires iodine to elaborate thyroxine. These hormones affect body temperature, regulate protein, fat and carbohydrate catabolism in all cells, maintain growth hormone secretion, skeletal maturation, the cardiac rate, force, and output, promote central nervous system development, needed for muscle… [cont.]

Asked by karen - Sun May 31 07:53:32 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Depends on the drug. Generics are almost exactly the same as brands in many cases, but in SOME you may react differently due to different delivery systems, buffers, etc. For example, I cannot take generic minocycline (acne medicine) because I developed ulcers and always got nauseous when I took them, but I had no problem with the branded formulations (which worked MUCH better as well) and as a plus, I could take it with milk (which you're not supposed to do with generic). And non-pill drugs -- for example, prescription lotions or creams for or scars, burns, or discoloration are often more effective as brands and have fewer side effects (they may go on better and not be sticky, not dry out the skin or cause peeling and redness or not smell… [cont.]

Q. under what strict conditions r blood levels of a drug influential on the therapeutic effects?
Asked by Barbara L - Fri Sep 21 22:04:44 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This question relates to the principles of 'ADME' of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. The acronym means Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism,Excretion of a medicament. Your blood level section therefore involves the latter half of absorption, i.e. action and time of the drug getting into the circulating blood. The loading dose/area under the curve/concentration at peak level or half life then controls the distribution which closely leads into metabolism;e.g. the metabolism directly speaks to the amount of time the drug will be at an operating peak level, concentrating in the organ or tissue of maximum response, doing its work and then decreasing. Lastly then the drug is released or secreted from the organ and/or the liver (for detox) [cont.]

Anyone using colloidal silver as a therapeutic treatment for UTI?
Q. I get urinary tract infections all the time and am tired of taking antibiotics all the time. A friend suggested taking colloidal silver. I have heard many good things but one of the side effects is turning blue but only if you take too much. Is this true? So i was just looking for some feed back from other people taking this product or know about it.

A. I know a few people who have done that and told me it worked. I however have not needed to do it As far as the turning blue thing goes; that's basically propoganda from the medical establishment to protect their market. I think about 6 people total have had that happen to them, and all of them used a lot of it daily for years, and most important used a bad grade home made version (whereas with properly made CS the particles are too small to store in the skin). If you want to know anymore about the issue feel free to look it up.

Could "eugenol" be used as a therapeutic agent in asbestosis?
Q. "Eugenol" is a chemical found in an extract of cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon that polymerizes to asbestos fibers, neutralizing their toxicity. A. I doubt it as its the damage the asbestos causes to the cells which causes the asbestosis, not just the asbestos itself. So even if it were possible to remove the fibres the cells would still be severely damaged;
