An effective dose in pharmacology is the amount of drug that produces a therapeutic response in 50% of the people taking it, sometimes also called ED-50. In radiation protection it is an estimate of the stochastic effect that a non-uniform radiation dose has on a human. The effective dose is often determined based on analysing the dose-response relationship specific to the drug. Q. I am prescribed 30mg of Adderall, two times a day. I would think that if I took 3 doses, the effects would be amplified, but usually it makes me more tired and lethargic. As a physican, I recommend you take the prescibed amount and not alter the amount intake unless authorized by your physican. Overdosing on medication does not give a better effect.
