Clinical Trials are conducted to allow safety and efficacy data to be collected for health interventions (e.g., drugs, diagnostics, devices, therapy protocols). These trials can take place only after satisfactory information has been gathered on the quality of the non-clinical safety, and Health Authority/Ethics Committee approval is granted in the country where the trial is taking place. Depending on the type of product and the stage of its development, investigators enroll healthy volunteers and/or patients into small pilot studies initially, followed by larger scale studies in patients that often compare the new product with the currently prescribed treatment. As positive safety and efficacy data are gathered, the number of patients is typically increased. Clinical trials can vary in size from a single center in one country to multicenter trials in multiple countries. Due to the sizable cost a full series of clinical trials may incur, the burden of paying for all the necessary people and services is usually borne by the sponsor who may be a governmental organization, a pharmaceutical, or biotechnology company. Since the diversity of roles may exceed resources of the sponsor, often a clinical trial is managed by an outsourced partner such as a contract research organization or a clinical trials unit in the academic sector. GNU Free Documentation License Do they normally administer drug tests when you participate in a clinical trial? Q. I just signed up for a clinical trial on a new drug for major depression. Do they usually drug test you (for marijuana) during this process? I figure they probably at least do for hard drugs, but I wasn't sure about weed. While studies vary depending on protocol, and what they're for, it would be standard to do a full drug screen in a depression panel. Marijuana would, actually, be one of the substances they're looking for as it has some very serious implications in mental health. In addition, they're conducting a trial on a depression drug, and marijuana has been demonstrated to seriously affect how well antidepressants work in a profoundly negative way. Answered by Az R - Wed Apr 22 20:09:26 2009 To qualify for a clinical trial in the United States do you have to be a resident or a citizen ? Q. I am a U.S. citizen, but my question is for a relative that lives in another country. I was looking for a clinical trial for cancer and there are many here in the U.S, but not in the country where my relative lives. So I was wondering if i bring him to stay here as a visitor with a ten year visa would he be able to participate in the trials ? Asked by George M - Mon Mar 12 21:32:40 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. He should have his oncologist make contact with whoever is offering the Clinical Trial (the sponsor). He can find out the eligibility criteria for his type of cancer. I've personally not heard that a patient is rejected for a trial based on whether they are a US citizen or not. As far as I know as long as the patient meets the eligibility criteria for that particular trial . . than they can participate no matter what their nationality. Answered by Panda - Mon Mar 12 22:08:24 2007 A statistics question: How do you apply the Shapiro-Wilk test of normality to clinical trial data?
Q. I would like to test my data for normality. If my clinical trial has 3 groups, and each group received a different treatment, do I apply the Shapiro-Wilk test to the data from each group separately (i.e., to the grouped data) or do I apply the test to the data from all subjects all at once? I will be comparing the 3 groups to each other. (One of the 3 groups is a control group, but they do get treatment) Asked by lilcher - Mon Sep 29 18:30:37 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments From Yahoo Answer Search: "Clinical trial" Biogen Idec advances drug for hemophilia A - Boston Globe
